Dr. Kenneth Bergman has lived in Virginia since 1974. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Cornell University in 1963. He attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, New York where he earned his M.D. Dr. Bergman joined the Army and practiced Internal Medicine for the armed forces until 1980. He pursued his training in Allergy and Immunology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he completed his fellowship in 1981. He retired from the army in 1988 with the rank of Colonel. Dr. Bergman opened Family Allergy Center in 1990, and has been in private practice ever since. He has been cited in the Washingtonian Magazine Top Doctors for over ten years. His specialty is pediatric and adult allergy with a special emphasis on food allergy, atopic dermatitis, and immunotherapy.

We have 4 professionally licensed nursing staff members who support our providers by performing skin testing, office procedures, shot injections and answering general medical questions.
Our administrative team includes a long term, highly trained office manager who is involved daily with all aspects related to running both offices and several experienced front office support personnel.
The majority of our staff have worked at the Family Allergy Center for 5 years or more.
Our telephones are always answered by a team member during regular business hours. We do not have voicemail. This allows us to provide you with the highest level of care for your medical needs.
Dr. Smith is a native of Virginia. She received a Bachelor of the Arts in Chemistry from the University of Virginia in 1993. She then attended the George Washington University in Washington, DC where she received a Masters of Public Health degree in 1996. She then moved to Richmond, Virginia where she attended Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and earned her M.D. She graduated a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University before moving to Morgantown, West Virginia to complete her residency at West Virginia University. She worked at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration in Clarksburg, WV before going back to West Virginia University to complete a combined pediatric and adult Allergy/Immunology fellowship. Her professional interests include pediatric and adult asthma, optimal allergen immunotherapy, allergic diseases of the skin, and immunodeficiency.
Catherine is a native of Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at George Mason University in 1990. She worked at Georgetown University Hospital as a medical/surgical nurse for two years. She returned to George Mason University and received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1995. She received ANCC certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1995. She worked in the primary care/urgent care setting for several years before joining the Family Allergy Center, PC in 1995. She has worked exclusively at the Family Allergy Center, PC since 1998. She sees adult & pediatric allergy, asthma and other allergic diseases.

Dr. Kenneth R. Bergman Jr., M.D.
Dr. Bergman grew up in the Northern Virginia area and attended college
locally at James Madison University where he majored in Molecular
Biology. He then attained his Masters in Physiology at Georgetown
University as well as attending Medical School at Georgetown University on an HPSP scholarship from the Army. He graduated in 1998 with Doctorate of Medicine. He travelled for 9 years with the Army as an Otolaryngologist.
During this time he lived in San Antonio, Texas and worked at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center. He served 2 years at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom. When he left the Army, he settled back in Northern Virginia where he practiced Allergy and Otolaryngology for 7 years.
He maintains his Board certification in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine and now focuses on non-surgical Ear Nose and Throat issues, Allergy and Sleep Medicine. He is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and looks forward to joining Family Allergy Center. He is married and has 3 daughters. He enjoys fishing and attending his children's sporting events.
